  1. The sparkling Olympics cannot hide for long the reality of China as it slides deeper and deeper into the treacherous waters of authoritarian capitalism. Naomi Klein, who makes a lot of noise about these matters, calls it the worst of both worlds: Stalinism with capitalism, but I beg to differ. That’s just a liberal anticommunist slap. The Chinese brand of capitalism is pure capitalism, with Chinese cultural and historical specifications. Not Stalinism. Fortunately a wider segment of the population is now awakening to this imposture, and China may still recover from this market system pipe dream.
