PAINTING: The art of Phyllis Rutigliano

“My strongest wish is to have unity in and with my work–so much so that if even a tiny part of my image isn’t in agreement with the whole, I can sense it, change it and seamlessly complete the painting,” says New York native watercolorist Phyllis Rutigliano. “That I also want spontaneity with this fickle medium is a constant challenge. The demand to be extemporaneous requires an intense awareness of my feelings and yet makes it necessary that I forget them at the same time. When it works, it gives me the amazing sensation that the piece of art has mysteriously created itself.”
