The following definitions hit the mark squarely: (1) A misinformed, right-wing corporate media consumer who often fails to understand that BOTH major parties represent a corrupt plutocracy that steals from the middle class by taxing labor and profiting from corporate tax subsidies. 1. Fine piece.

But the conclusion may be whistling in the dark past the cemetery: “Perhaps when teabaggers finally grow up and mature into thinking adults, they will see the right-leaning power establishment for the oppressive and cunning beast that it is.”

It is, alas, unlikely that teabaggers will “grow up and mature into thinking adults.” I suspect most of them have already “grown up” as much as they ever will. Rather than hope for their transformation, the rest of us had better identify this peculiar breed (as the author does so well above), keep pointing out their oddities, continue to expose the absurdities, and solidify our communities with information, tactics and strategies. Like Betty Davis said in that long-ago movie, “Fasten your seat belts. It’s going to be a long, and bumpy ride.”

  2. I think Mr Corseri may be right about his pessimistic assessment of the “coming of maturity” for the “teabagger” crowd. Given the longstanding tradition of political confusion we observe in the US, and the role of the corporate media to stoke it at every possible turn, it takes a Candide to think we’ll see a blooming of rationality in this crowd. Plus, I believe, it’s not so much about access to information as the filters people carry within, filters heavily influenced by temperament and mental capability. Let’s face it: many people are just not that smart and not that generous.

  3. Propaganda, American style, is the best in history. It relies on subtle control of the mind; makes people believe they’re choosing freely when they’re not, etc. And its effects are not easy to erase.

  4. Teabaggers deserve praise. They’re the only people fighting to keep this country from being sunk by the communists.

  5. Hey Corseri,
While you lecture on maturity and encourage your little minded followers to watch for the oddities, expose the absurd, and all that noise, consider this: Weak minded paranoid people like yourself will wake up very soon and you will have nothing. Not even an internet to express your poison. If you own a gun….hide it, because that will be gone soon as well.
I’ll keep mine because while Obama says there is no problem with Islam…..he is a fool. He runs around the world shaking hands with all these rogue leaders thinking he will have favor. They would cut his head off if given the chance. I am rooting

  6. Hey Conner, Corseri may be weak-minded as you call it, but you’re brain-dead. Your mind has accumulated nothing but claptrap and ignorance and right-wing prejudices, 12 miles thick. As for “rogue” leaders, do you mean Hugo Chavez? He won in internationally certified elections by a larger majority than Obama, but I suppose that wouldn’t cut any cream with you either. Attempting any kind of reasoning with rightwingers like you is like punching on a knife. HOWEVER, what the fuck is it that you’re protesting? Obama is not going to take your guns away, and don’t make the mistake that people who disagree with tea-baggers are wimpy liberals. I own guns, served 11 years in the military, and would oppose any unreasonable gun control laws. But get this: Your guns will not be much help if you ever try to make a stand against the police and the US military. They’ll swat you like a mosquito. And one more thing, why don’t you blame the fucking Republicans and the thieves and criminals in the Bush-Cheney administration who created these wars and the financial collapse? I guess that would be too fair for your temperament.

  7. Hugh O’Brian,

You are a bitter, misinformed member of the human race. You rant and use your profane language because you obviously lack the intelligence to express yourself in an appropriate manner. I am sick of liberals such as yourself who harbor so much anger toward those who do not fall into line with your brand of thinking. You think you are so informed and broadminded? Then get with the program and accept those viewpoints that happen to differ from those of your narrow worldview.

  8. Carolyn, why the insults?

If Hugh’s doing something so terrible, why must you retreat into right-wing tropes about “the ironic intolerance of liberals”, etc.?

What’s cute is that whenever lefties are fair-minded and concede that “my opponent has a point, but…” righties tend to jump all over them. Take the Barry Goldwater quote, “A liberal is a man too broadminded to take his own side in a quarrel” – if Hugh strongly disagrees with somebody, he should be encouraged to speak his mind and be as vitriolic as he likes. He’s hurting nobody.

Also: who said anyone here is a liberal?
