I know that there are good arguments to be made for people not to vote. However, I cannot bring myself to throw away a right which was so hard fought for by our foreparents.
I also know that the fewer people who vote, the more likely that 1) ultra-conservatives will win, and 2) that a very small group of voters voting as a block (like the tea partiers) are likely to win.
I know this benefits the Republicans and that they are counting on people disenfranchising themselves. This election is not about Romney becoming President, it is about Ryan becoming President. They are looking at the end game which they have been fighting for in a concerted way since Ronald Reagan became President. They are licking their chops at sitting down to a final feast on the once great American experiment. While it is an experiment that has yet to fulfill its promise, I do believe we can ultimately get it right.
We are at a critical point, This is the most critical cusp in my life time – politically, environmentally, economically, and socially. We have the uber-conservatives who want to corporatize everything, hand the money from people’s hand directly to corporate hands, and then go to sleep. They want total power and they will have it.
Romney and the uber-conservatives have doubled down on failure and they truly don’t care about Romney. They have melded a perverted form of Christianity with an even more grotesque “capitalism” which will be a true exploitation machine – for as long as it lasts. The earth will scream under the heel of exxonshell, the war machine will roar with drones in air and sea and smiling “jockeys” with their game boy toys, while the victims cry tears captured laughingly on the drone cameras – reshown like home movies replete with pop corn.
Obama may not be much better, but there is a difference. We must continue to guard the walls of life and sanity for there is no doubt that the threat exists. But we must continue to fight.
So I beg you to consider voting if you have not. Vote your local ballots and your federal ones. We can try to get a progressive voice in Congress and the State Houses. I am tired of the nibbling at our liberties. The far right is very scary in their reactionary mechanisms. We must respond with a strong voice. Please be that voice.
