Under the regime of neoliberalism, especially in the United States, war has become an extension of politics as almost all aspects of society have been transformed into a combat zone. Americans now live in a society in which almost everyone is spied on, considered a potential terrorist, and subject to a mode of state and corporate lawlessness in which the arrogance of power knows no limits. The state of exception has become normalized.  Moreover, as society becomes increasingly militarized and political concessions become relics of a long-abandoned welfare state hollowed out to serve the interest of global markets, the collective sense of ethical imagination and social responsibility toward those who are vulnerable or in need of care is now viewed as a scourge or pathology.

Introduction by Patrice Greanville

When it comes to propaganda the American system is second to none. It is the most insidious mind control system ever devised. The American brand of brainwash is not part of the old authoritarian ideology, whether emanating from some theological source (such as the absolutism of Pharaohs or medieval kings) or overtly political, as is the case with Hitler and other modern dictators. The beauty, effectiveness, and resilience of the US propaganda system resides in its pervasiveness and invisibility (given its “invisible” roots in the private ruling class controlled media), and constant but always denied subservience to the state—all of which pretty much guarantees policy outcomes agreeable to the plutocracy.

UkraineProtestsBy Deena Styker. Republished from Firedog Lake via Finnish Perspective.

Some American commentators close to the Obama administration are touting the coup in Kiev as a successful tit for tat for Russia’s obstruction of U.S. war plans against Syria and its broader imperialist agenda. However, the Europeans, who get a lot of their gas from Russia, are split over joining ‘a coalition of the willing’. At the NATO defense ministers meeting in Brussels on Feb. 26, German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen insisted that a solution could be found through cooperation with Moscow. She was echoed by the German business community.

$5 Billion for Fascists, Cuts at Home

VenezuelaProtestBy Andy Piascik

It’s remarkable how the United States spends massive amounts of money on war, supporting terrorism and fomenting coups at the same time politicians and pundits insist there’s no money for successful, much-needed domestic programs. Just since 2002, the US has spent trillions of dollars waging war on Iraq and Afghanistan, with absolutely no end in sight to the spending or the misery of those two countries. At the same time, Unemployment Insurance, veterans’ benefits and many other programs get shredded and shredded some more because “there’s no money.”

Ukraine-extreme-droiteBy Prof Michel Chossudovsky from Global Research.

According to the New York Times, “The United States and the European Union have embraced the revolution here as another flowering of democracy, a blow to authoritarianism and kleptocracy in the former Soviet space.” ( After Initial Triumph, Ukraine’s Leaders Face Battle for Credibility,  NYTimes.com, March 1, 2014, emphasis added)
