By Bob Fitrakis and Harvey Wasserman. Republished from The Free Press. The escalating confrontations in Wisconsin and Ohio are ultimately about preventing the United States from becoming a full-on fascist state. The stakes could not be higher—or more clear. IMAGE: Ronald Reagan in 1976, Gov. of California. It was the beginning of the ascent to the White House, with awful consequences for America and the world. Reagan’s foreign policy was marked by naked imperialism, interventionism in poor countries, and smug rhetoric. The influence of reactionary fundamentalist churches and rabble-rousing rhetoric by rightwing radio and tv personalities is undeniable in this and similar cases.

Worst president ever for the American people—and we’ve had some doozies—but the best presidential front corporate America could have wished for. By Sheila Samples “When once a republic is corrupted, there is no possibility of remedying any of the growing evils but by removing the corruption and restoring its lost principles; every other correction is [...]
By Gaither Stewart The name Forza Italia chosen by Berlusconi for his party blends sports metaphors with political triumphs to come. A masterful propaganda choice. “Rome is well worth a mass” HOW MUCH LAUGHTER AND TEARS, consternation and gnashing of teeth Silvio Berlusconi has provoked in Italy, Europe and the world since he entered politics [...]
